BCC provided design-build services for a brand new 55,000 square foot tire manufacturing expansion project that included a 30,000 square foot renovation of adjacent interior space at the Sumitomo Rubber USA tire manufacturing campus in Tonawanda, NY. Sumitomo Rubber Industries is the fourth largest tire manufacturing company in the world, with approximately $8 billion in annual revenue from their three business divisions: Sports, Tire and Industrial. The campus is undergoing a $128 million expansion, including major projects that upgrade all industrial processes: tire building, rubber mixing and tire curing, all being overseen by the BCC team.
The tire building expansion project included a fast track delivery, including multiple design and bid packages in order to release long lead materials early in the design process so that they were available during the required construction sequence. BCC provided extensive cost-benefit analysis of major systems and materials so that the owner was able to make fully informed decisions relative to cost, quality, lead time and total cost of ownership. The building was engineered for cost effective future expansion at the west end. The project design was initiated in June 2021 and the first tire building machine arrived in July 2022.
