One M&T Plaza
Buffalo Construction Consultants (BCC) served as the construction manager at risk for M&T Bank for the façade reconstruction at their world headquarters at One M&T Plaza. The historic building was originally designed by famed architect Minoru Yamasaki with Duane Lyman Associates and completed in 1967.
Located in a busy section of downtown Buffalo, the project required careful and intensive planning and logistics management. The plan for construction implementation was developed collaboratively with M&T Bank representatives and the engineering team to ensure the safety of bank employees and the public, while also minimizing disruption to bank operations and the M&T Bank Plaza Event Series, which includes free concerts and events every summer.
The scope of work included replacing the green Verde and white marble on the lower thirty feet of the façade on all elevations. Material procurement of the green Verde marble came from the same quarry in Vermont as the materials that were sourced during the original construction. Slabs were carefully selected to match the veining and coloration of the original materials. The white marble was replaced with a man-made product called Neoparies from Japan.
BCC utilized stringent quality control and quality assurance processes to provide a meticulous finished product. The project began in 2021 and was completed in June 2023. Most recently, the project at One M&T Plaza won the Historic Renovation Buffalo Business First Brick by Brick award in summer 2024.
