ECMC Lobby Expansion
In 2018, Buffalo Construction Consultants, Inc. (BCC) was selected to serve as the Owner’s Representative for Erie County Medical Center (ECMC)’s $35 million lobby expansion and building envelope project.
The scope of work for the building envelope improvements project included modernizing the 43-year-old façade and improving the overall energy efficiency of ECMC. The general work consisted of roofing repairs and replacements, complete building envelope replacement, masonry wall reconstruction and repairs, precast sealant replacements, and glazing system replacements. The main lobby expansion and renovation project included new escalators, two new elevators, new main entrance finishes, a new main reception area, and new mechanical systems to support the expansion.
This complex project was comprised of two distinct phases, both of which included implementing significant work at occupied facilities. Despite the many challenges that arose during the COVID-19 pandemic, this multi-year modernization project continued without disruption and was successfully completed in 2021.
