950 Broadway

Buffalo, NY
Completion Date: July 2024

Building Buffalo One Brick at a Time

Buffalo Construction Consultants, Inc. (BCC) was selected by Cedarland Development in 2023 as the construction manager for the $14 million historic redevelopment project the corner of Broadway and Fillmore Avenue on the East Side of Buffalo. 950 Broadway, now referred to as the Eckhardt Lofts, were completed in August 2024.

The Art Moderne building — with its rounded facade of granite, terra cotta and stainless steel — was designed by architects Bley and Lyman and built in 1940 as Eckhardt’s and Kobacker’s department store. The 50,000 sq. ft. building was renovated and converted into a mixed-use development, featuring 28 affordable housing units, a free Head Start child education program, and an indoor urban farm. The building has been unused and underutilized for 18 years, with portions of the building being vacant for decades prior. The 28 affordable apartment include ten studio apartments, 12 one-bedroom units, and six two-bedroom units. The Head Start children’s education program run on the first floor of the building will be run by the Community Action Organization.

950 Broadway LLC was chosen along with 10 other transformational projects in Buffalo’s Broadway-Fillmore neighborhood as part of a $10M Downtown Revitalization Initiative Award. This project was also a recipient of ESD and HCR grant funding with M/WBE requirements.
